Your Proposal:
We propose a chaotic intervention entitled ‘!hen~do audiovisual bafflement solutions’. This will take the form of five roaming astronauts in convincing illuminated exploration suits, projecting and manipulating image and sound transmissions in playful autoschediastic dialogue with the place and its population at the time of performance. The group’s presence will complicate the main church space’s ancient, sublime and ruined aspects with the astronaut’s associations of the futuristic, celestial and absurd.

¡hen~dø are a group of core participants at the Cube Microplex, the building which housed Bristol’s first Arts Centre established by volunteers in the 1960’s. In communion with characteristics of Theaster Gates’ social practice, the current collective successfully mounted a campaign to secure the space for the arts in perpetuity in the face of encroaching gentrification, allowing ¡hen~dø to establish a practice encouraging experimental, experiential, participatory performance from a wide spectrum of artists, professional and non professional from varying disciplines.
We would like our participation in Sanctum to capacitate the creation of a fugitive Cube-like space within the project and would therefore relish the chance to perform in, and re-purpose, any nooks and crannies that the Temple Church may throw up.
We also like the idea that our performances seem to exist outside the standard linear dynamics of space and time and create moments in which both audience and performers can lose themselves.
